Coffeehouse to open in former theater
Lincoln Heights—Stumptown Coffee Roasters will open a flagship cafe inside the historic Starland Theatre building at 2624 N. Broadway on Saturday, Aug. 29. The cafe and regional training space preserve the theater’s original façade, which was revealed early last year, and terrazzo flooring. The first 100 guests will receive Stumptown merchandise. Opening-day hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; regular hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily starting Sunday, Aug. 30. Stumptown closed its Arts District cafe in 2024 but opened a new spot in Pasadena. The The former Starland Theatre dates back to 2013 and operated until the late 1960s, according to Los Angeles Theatres.

Motorcyclist wins $28 million in lawsuit
East Hollywood—A motorcyclist who lost a leg after a collision with a firetruck has won a $28-million judgment against the city. Robert Danbom was heading northbound on Vermont Avenue on Sept. 2, 2021, when a westbound firetruck appeared in his path. L.A. Times

Lineage expands assistance to East L.A.
East Los Angeles—Hundreds of East Los Angeles households near the site of the Lineage warehouse fire will get a one-time $200 credit on their Southern California Edison bill. This happened after weeks of pressure from residents and L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis to extend relief beyond Boyle Heights. Lineage initially provided $50,000 in utility assistance to 218 LADWP customers in Boyle Heights, but did not include residents in unincorporated East L.A. Boyle Heights Beat
The encampment that doesn’t go away
El Sereno—Neighbors are complaining about an encampment on Fithian Avenue. The people in the encampment say outreach teams have offered them assistance, but they don’t want to go to a shelter. Nearby residents say Council District 14 advised them to accept the encampment. Fox LA
