Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews on Tuesday pulled a man from the American River in Rancho Cordova after his body was seen floating downstream.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sacramento Metro Fire responded to a call for a water rescue along the American River near Hagan Community Park in Rancho Cordova.
Firefighters received reports of a man seen floating downstream and were given with a general area in which to begin searching for him, according to a Metro Fire news release.
Fire officials said two Metro Fire rescue boats, a helicopter, an aerial drone and shore-based crews searched the river.
About one hour after receiving the call for the water rescue, Metro Fire crews found the man and pulled him out of the water onto one of the rescue boats.
Fire officials said the man was taken to a hospital on the Metro Fire helicopter. Fire officials said they did not have any further details about the man’s condition.
Metro Fire officials reminded everyone in or near the American River to always wear a properly fitted life jacket.
“Moving water can be cold, swift and unpredictable, and a life jacket provides critical protection in an emergency,” Metro Fire officials said in the news release.
