The California High-Speed Rail Authority is seeking public input as it evaluates two potential sites for its proposed Central Valley heavy maintenance facility.
The potential locations are near the cities of Fresno and Hanford in Kings County. The site would create jobs and other economic opportunities.
The authority is holding two in-person “public scoping meetings“ this week in Fresno and Hanford. A third meeting will be held virtually via Zoom.
Each meeting will include a project overview, an opportunity to ask questions, and provide input.
The Fresno meeting will take place Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the California High Speed Rail Authority Fresno boardroom, 1111 H St.The Hanford meeting be Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Hanford Civic Auditorium, 400 N. Douty St.The virtual meeting will be Thursday from 5 to 6 pm. on Zoom. To register for the virtual meeting or to provide input, visit www.hsr.ca.gov/hmf.
The heavy maintenance facility would serve as the primary location for inspections, servicing, maintenance, overhaul and major components replacement for the high speed train fleet. The authority anticipates at least 1,700 jobs at the site.
From an initial 11 potential sites, the authority narrowed the list down to two sites based on operation needs, land use compatibility, construction feasibility, community impacts and environmental considerations.
Public comments will be accepted through Sept. 14. Comments may be submitted by email to hmf@hsr.ca.gov with the subject line “Central Valley HMF Scoping Comment,” by phone at 559-248-1060, and by mail to Stefan Galvez-Abadia, Director of Environmental Services; ATTN: Central Valley HMF Scoping Comment, California High-Speed Rail Authority, 770 L St., Suite 620, Sacramento, CA 95814
