SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — San Francisco police and prosecutors on Monday detailed allegations against two navigation center employees accused of helping a robbery suspect evade capture after the suspect allegedly shot and wounded Officer Brittany Taylor on May 31.
According to police, the suspect, identified by authorities as Norris Reed III, shot Taylor in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood following a pursuit. Investigators said Reed then ran into a nearby navigation center, where two employees allegedly provided false information to officers and misdirected them during the search.

At a Monday news conference, San Francisco Police Chief Derreck Lew said one employee allegedly lied to police, while another provided the suspect with a jacket and hat and assisted him in escaping through a window.
“The suspect, Norris Reed III, then immediately ran to a nearby navigation center where employees failed to call police; they helped the suspect evade capture. I watched the video of this, which is stunning. Even after recognizing that this man was armed, as he tried to enter the navigation center, they still assisted him,” Lew said.
District Attorney Jenkins said authorities view the employees’ alleged actions seriously.
“So to have employees of this navigation center act in furtherance to assist this individual, knowing that he was armed and police were searching for him, is something we won’t take lightly,” Jenkins said.
Police ultimately apprehended and arrested the suspect, according to authorities and body-camera footage released in the case.
The two navigation center employees have been charged with accessory after the fact and obstructing and delaying police officers. They are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Taylor has been released from the hospital and continues to recover.
