The Castro regularly hosts popular community events, including a monthly night market that brings a collection of vendors, performers, and local businesses together. This weekend, the neighborhood is hosting another free community event, a carnival and family block party. Here’s what to know.

On Saturday, August 29, the Castro will host a family-friendly carnival with music, drag performances, and a collection of LGBTQ+ artists. The free event will take place at Noe and Market Street from 12 to 5 pm. The carnival is hosted by the Castro Merchants, which is an organization comprised of businesses in the iconic neighborhood.
The upcoming carnival is a great opportunity to experience one of the neighborhood’s free events, especially if you missed last week’s night market. At the same time, on Saturday, the Castro Theater will host a special anniversary screening of the beloved Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away. The screening takes place at 2 pm, and doors open at 1 pm. After the carnival, we recommend stopping by one of the many restaurants in the area, including Starbelly, Twin Peaks, Dumpling Story, and many more.
