NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – On Thursday, the California Highway Patrol Northern Division announced the arrival of their new commander.
According to the CHP, Chief Andrew Poyner will now oversee all CHP operations within the region served by the Northern Division office.
Chief Poyner’s responsibilities include managing 15 area offices, 11 resident posts and two commercial vehicle enforcement facilities spanning across 14 counties in Northern California.
Poyner has served with the department for nearly 20 years.
After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2007, Poyner began his career in the Monterey Area. Poyner continued his career as an officer in the South Lake Tahoe Area and the Office of Assistant Commissioner, Field.
He was promoted to the rank of sergeant into the Internal Affairs Section and later returned to the field as a sergeant in the Willows Area.
The CHP says Chief Poyner has served as lieutenant commander of the Cottonwood Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility, lieutenant commander of the Willows Area, commander of the Chico Area and assistant chief of Valley Division.
