Man accused of breaking into multiple homes in Oakland County pleads guilty

  • August 28, 2026

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A man accused of breaking into multiple homes by kicking in their doors has pleaded guilty to multiple charges.

Prentice Montrell Slaton, 36, was initially charged with two counts of home invasion, seven counts of second-degree home invasion, one count of larceny of a firearm, one count of felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of felony firearm.

Prentice Montrell Slaton, who was involved in a series of Waterford-Pontiac home invasions, has been arrested following operation “Kicked-In.” (Waterford Township Police Department)

According to Waterford police in November 2025, victims in several home invasions near the Waterford-Pontiac border reported that their homes were broken into during the early morning hours, and said the suspect kicked in their doors to break in. One victim provided security footage of one of the suspects.

While officers were conducting surveillance in the area of Huron and Telegraph, they learned that a home on Ruth Avenue, just east of Telegraph, had been broken into.

When officers saw two people get into a car in the area of Waterly and Voorheis, they pulled the car over and saw Slaton allegedly in possession of stolen items from the home invasion on Ruth Avenue, as well as other items stolen from other homes.

When Slaton was arrested and arraigned, officials learned he was on parole for similar offenses. The driver of the car was arrested and later released.

On Aug. 25, he pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree home invasion and seven counts of second-degree home invasion. All other charges were dismissed, according to circuit court documents.

Slaton is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 29, 2026, at 10 a.m.
