1 dead, 1 injured after being struck by a train in north Sacramento, police say
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
One person is dead and another is injured after they were struck by a train in north Sacramento, according to police.
The Sacramento Police Department said officers responded to reports of a Union Pacific Railroad train colliding with two pedestrians in the 2500 block of Grand Avenue.
Union Pacific said the crash happened around 5 p.m. on the tracks near Grand Avenue. The crash didn’t happen at a railroad crossing.
One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, Union Pacific said. The other was pronounced dead on the scene.
The train crew was not injured and is being offered support after witnessing the incident, according to Union Pacific.
The crash is under investigation.
