The East Bay has had plenty of musical exports over the years, but one of the biggest in recent memory is Kehlani. The R&B singer with two Grammys on their mantle is in the thick of a national tour; however, a recent illness has led their to hospitalization and the postponement of two shows.
On Wednesday, Kehlani posted a photo showing a doctor’s office with a lengthy caption describing her situation on Facebook. “After two off days feeling completely normal.. ive been up all night unable to swallow & in so much pain,” they wrote. They went on to say that they had left the hospital but were not yet cleared to sing. Upcoming shows in Camden, New Jersey, and Columbia, Maryland, have been postponed from Aug. 26 and 27 to Sept. 5 and 6. The singer’s tour is currently scheduled to stop in the Bay Area later in the fall, with shows at Shoreline Amphitheatre on Oct. 3 and 4. They last performed in San Francisco at Chase Center in November 2024, with a scheduled appearance during the SoSF Pride music festival canceled in 2025.
Born Kehlani Ashley Parrish, the 31-year-old star attended Oakland School for the Arts, where they studied ballet and modern dance. In their late teens, they performed on “America’s Got Talent” before releasing a pair of mixtapes that were certified gold. Kehlani has been nominated for a total of seven Grammys, including two wins in 2026. The hit “Folded” earned the awards for best R&B performance and best R&B song.
