My Sacramento State vs. Eastern Michigan prediction and college football picks back the experienced home side as Sacramento State plays its first game as an FBS program. Catch the game at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ as part of today’s Week 0 action.
The underdogs face an immediate logistical challenge: traveling from California to Ypsilanti for this MAC opener. That has the Eagles as the 9.5-point home favorites with a total of 53.5.

Sacramento State vs Eastern Michigan prediction: Eastern Michigan -9.5
I can’t say I ever saw myself backing Eastern Michigan Eagles to cover a near double-digit spread, but it’s not every day you get a scenario like this: a team in the Sacramento State Hornets making their FBS debut and having to travel cross-country to do it. There’s a continuity advantage at play here, too.
The Eagles return fifth-year quarterback Noah Kim after he led the MAC with 2,817 passing yards, along with his top receiving options. The Hornets are the opposite of that in any conventional sense with a first-year coaching staff and a roster undergoing a total personnel overhaul.
Eastern Michigan allowed only 11 sacks last season, while Sacramento State lost key pieces from an FCS defensive front that ranked sixth nationally in sacks.
EMU’s awful 2025 run defense makes this edge smaller, but Sacramento State’s effective rushing attack came from a different team. I’m siding with the known commodity that should be able to keep its offense on schedule, and would play this up to -10.

Sacramento State vs Eastern Michigan same-game parlay (SGP)
I’m building the parlay around the same idea: Sacramento State may need time before its offense settles into the game.
That makes first-half Under 27.5 particularly appealing. Even if Sacramento State eventually settles in, I’m skeptical it immediately creates efficient possessions against an established FBS opponent.
Eastern Michigan should have a better start behind Kim, which pairs naturally with its first-half moneyline. I’ll also add the full-game Under 53.5. The Eagles ranked only 63rd in adjusted EPA/play last season and must replace 1,000-yard rusher Dontae McMillan, so this doesn’t need to become a high-scoring game for Eastern Michigan to cover.
