A man killed in a two-vehicle crash in the Alamitos Heights community of Long Beach a week ago was publicly identified Saturday.
Robert Fairbanks, 44, died from blunt trauma in the accident, the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office said. His city of residence was not released.
The crash occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Aug. 22 in the 5700 block of Pacific Coast Highway, near Bellflower Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
A 2026 Tesla was going westbound on PCH at a high rate of speed when it struck a 2025 Volkswagen that was exiting a shopping center, according to the preliminary investigation. The Tesla then jumped the curb and struck a cinder block wall, causing additional damage to several parked vehicles. The Volkswagen struck a sign, police said.
The Volkswagen’s 48-year-old female driver and 43-year-old female passenger were also taken to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately available.
Speed and impaired driving appeared to be contributing factors in the collision, police said.
