BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield men’s soccer were home for this week’s match against UNLV. The `Runners’ second home game of the season ended with their first loss of the season. Despite having control of most of the game, Bakersfield couldn’t turn their opportunities into goals.
UNLV started early with the goals leading by 2 by the 17th minute of the game. After much pressure from both teams, Jesse Wangusi, CSUB Midfielder shot his first goal of the season, putting the Runners on the scoreboard. After the first half of the game, the Rebels had the lead, 2-1.
During the second half, both the Roadrunners and Rebels put on a strong defensive battle, with neither team being able to score. After continuous pressure to the Rebels’ defense, CSUB had 11 shots in the second half, however none found the back of the net, leaving the Rebels with the lead.
The game ended with the Rebels taking the victory, 2-1, this being the Roadrunners’ first loss of the season. The `Runners will be back on the road next week for their next match taking place in San Diego, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
