The summer months are coming to an end — so Long Beach will celebrate with a final concert for the community.
The free concert will take place on Friday, Sept. 4, at El Dorado Park West, 2800 N. Studebaker Road, featuring Southern California funk, R&B and new jack swing band RemiX.
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will close out a robust season of family-friendly programming and events with this concert, according to a press release.
“Join us as we say ‘farewell’ to summer with an unforgettable concert featuring the greatest party hits and captivating performances from RemiX,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a statement. “Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, family and friends and enjoy a final summer evening of free live music.”
Before the concert, there will also be various activities, such as face painting and games, beginning at 5 p.m. The concert will take place near the corner of Studebaker Road and Willow Street from 6 to 8 p.m.
RemiX is a tribute band that plays a blend of funk, R&B and new jack swing, the press release said, and its performances take concertgoers on a musical journey through all the great hits of the 1980s and ’90’s.
Over the summer, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine hosted 76 free and low-cost summer events, officials said, including free movies in the park; free performances by the Long Beach Municipal Band and the Long Beach Community Band; and seven free World Cup watch parties, in partnership with the city’s Office of Special Events and Filming, as part of the Soccer in the LBC initiative, the press release said.
