Fresno Chaffee Zoo welcomes new female Masai giraffe calf

FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — The Fresno County Zoo announced the birth of a new female giraffe calf.

The Masai giraffe, Siku, gave birth to a female calf on August 18th.

Siku and her calf will remain behind the scenes as they continue to bond and be monitored by the Zoo’s Animal Care and Veterinary teams.

This is the second calf born to Siku and male Masai giraffe Fenny at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.

However, the birth of the calf is bittersweet with the recent passing of Fenny.

The staff says, “The birth of his daughter has become a bright spot for the Zoo staff and guests that cared for Fenny, and we look forward to introducing her to the community.”
