Here are Oakland County’s top 10 football teams after the opening weekend of the 2026 season:

1. Detroit Catholic Central (1-0 D1) — The Shamrocks made a statement by clobbering Chippewa Valley and not needing to even risk some of their big stars in the second half of Thursday’s game in Detroit.

2. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (1-0 D2) — Even missing their starting kicker and several Division 1-caliber players, the Eaglets flew out of a double-digit hole to beat Mona Shores at home. But it’s going to at least take one loss to dislodge them (and probably their CHSL Central brethren, too) out of the top spots.

3. Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice (1-0 D2) — Junior Brock Zehnder is going to add to his offer list with more games like Friday’s against Dakota when he had over 150 receiving yards and two scores. It’s a sign of how many weapons the Warriors have that he was an unknown heading into the season.

4. Clarkston (1-0 D1) — South Lyon kept it to within one score before the Wolves, led by senior QB Alex Waszczenko and junior RB Kiernan Riddle, dominated the second half Friday night at The Big House. Will get a good OAA crossover test on the road in Week 2 with a trip to the Creek.

5. Walled Lake Western (1-0 D1) — Senior QB David Krall had intentions of breaking some school records this fall, and got off to a good start by throwing for over 250 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-31 comeback road victory at River Rouge.

6. Oxford (1-0 D1) — No one talked about Jack Hendrix when the Wildcats were glanced over in the past several seasons, but sophomore Michael King stepped in for his first varsity start at QB and handled business in Week 1’s shutout victory against Hartland by throwing three TDs. If he can prove able in the team’s divisional matchups, the Wildcats will be even more underrated than they looked to be entering the fall.

7. Stoney Creek (1-0 D1) — Ike may not be the strongest MAC Red team, but regardless, the Cougars showed once again that they can hang with teams in the top divisions in Oakland and Macomb County. Stoney will have a chance to jump in these rankings if it can upset Clarkston this coming week.

8. Farmington (1-0 D1) — A solid home victory to start the year over an Ann Arbor Huron team picked to finish somewhere in the middle of the SEC Red Division. The Falcons should beat WL Northern this week, setting up a game in Week 3 against Livonia Franklin that could determine which of the two teams is a frontrunner in the LVC.

9. North Farmington (1-0 D2) — Overcame some big individual performances by Birmingham Groves, and yes they could have lost if not for a last-second field goal that went off the post, but as long as quarterback Elijah Cobb is healthy, the Raiders are going to have playmaking.

10. Rochester (1-0 D1) — Are the Falcons going to be best in the city this season? They got off on the right track at home on opening weekend by shutting out L’Anse Creuse North. The Matt Dyki-to-Nate Tandy connection should continue to bear fruit, and they could provide the answer to that first question this week against an Adams team that has returned far, far less than Rochester.
