BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Three people were arrested, and several were cited during a DUI checkpoint in Delano Friday night.
The Delano Police Department said the DUI checkpoint was in the 1400 block of Fremont Street from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, August 28.
Delano PD said 602 vehicles were contacted, with three drivers cited for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license. Police said three people were arrested for other criminal charges, including driving under the influence, bench warrants, and public intoxication.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.
The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
