BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Scams can happen to anyone and knowing the signs can help prevent them from going too far.

Scammers often start their schemes with a simple phone call, text or email.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is making sure the community is ready to act if they encounter a scammer.

Public Information Officer Lori Meza and Crime Prevention Coordinator Michelle Flores joined ARC Bakersfield to break down the warning signs of a scam, how to avoid them and what to do if you are targeted.
