Welcome evening breezes with some good company, especially as the season cools down, with the Northeast Los Angeles Walking Club. Organized by Alex Romero, the group aims to build community with simple, free explorations on foot.
Known as NELA, the group gathers every Monday evening at 5:30 pm at the Jack in the Box on Ave. 43 and Figueroa St. (6250 York Blvd, Highland Park).
The group’s Instagram features previous walks through the Arroyo Seco, through neighborhoods and parks, and past local mosaics, schools, and other public spaces. Occasionally, walks are cancelled due to weather impacts such as extreme heat, which are announced on their social media.
Meet a few neighbors and enjoy the area the old-fashioned way, one step at a time.
