San Francisco will counter with Landen Roupp, who is 8-13 with a 4.25 ERA in 139.2 innings.

You have to watch the highlights of the opening game to really believe what happened. The Pirates scored nine runs in the third inning, after the Giants scored five in the second. Pittsburgh looked like they were in complete control from there on out, only for the Giants to tie the game in the eighth inning with another five-run run. Pitching was seemingly an afterthought in this game, even though both teams were starting their aces in Logan Webb and Paul Skenes. The Pirates ultimately prevailed, though, when Rafael Flores Jr hit a dart to Giants’ third baseman Osleivis Basabe. He made a great dig to field the play, but his throw was errant to first baseman Rafael Devers, and Brandon Lowe scored to walk off the game, thwarting the Giants’ comeback. Both teams combined for 35 hits, while O’Neil Cruz led the charge for the Pirates going 4-for-6 with four RBIs.
