A look at this week’s Pac-12 games, with three notes on each one:

Boise State

This week: Saturday at No. 2 Oregon, 12:30 p.m. PT (CBS)

Three notes: Boise State had won all three meetings against Oregon (in 2008, 2009 and 2017) before a 37-34 road loss in 2024. This is the highest-ranked opponent in program history for the Broncos, who are 24 1/2-point underdogs. … The Broncos don’t have a uniform sponsor logo yet, but two weeks ago announced a partnership (financial details not disclosed) with Progressive Insurance to put the company’s name beneath the Broncos midfield logo at Albertsons Stadium. Progressive made the deal with 13 schools, but Boise State is the only non-Power Four program among them. … BSU enters the season with a streak of 28 straight winning seasons, the longest active streak in FBS. Only Georgia (29) has a longer active streak being bowl eligible.

Colorado State

This week: Saturday vs. Wyoming, 3 p.m. PT (USA Network)

Three notes: Colorado State meets Wyoming in the 118th renewal of the Border War, which dates to an 1899 meeting that Wyoming forfeited over “a severe argument between opposing referees over rulebook violations.” CSU leads the series 59-52-5 (not counting the forfeit). …Rams coach Jim Mora (Atlanta, Seattle) is one of six active college head coaches who are former NFL head coaches, along with North Carolina’s Bill Belichick (New England, Cleveland), LSU’s Lane Kiffin (Oakland), Boston College’s Bill O’Brien (Houston), Nebraska’s Matt Rhule (Carolina) and Rutgers’ Greg Schiano (Tampa Bay). … Colorado State has 75 new players on its roster (38 returners). That’s a lot, but not even a state record. Colorado had 87 new players in 2023 in Deion Sanders’ first year as head coach. New Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris set the record this season with 91 new players.

Fresno State

This week: Friday at No. 14 USC, 6 p.m. PT (Fox).

Three notes: Fresno State is 1-5 all-time against USC, winning the first meeting 24-7 in the 1992 Freedom Bowl. The Bulldogs are 22 1/2-point underdogs in this one. … Fresno State coach Matt Entz should have some insight on what the Bulldogs are up against. Entz served as assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach under USC coach Lincoln Riley in 2024 before getting the Fresno State job. … Bulldogs junior Jayden Mandal won the quarterback competition, at least for Week 1, over Maryland transfer sophomore Khristian Martin and freshman Deagan Rose. Fresno State has only one career start among its quarterbacks. Clemson is the only other team in the nation with so few career starts for its QBs. In addition, the Bulldogs do not return any passing yards from 2025.

Oregon State

This week: Saturday at No. 23 Houston, 9 a.m. PT (ESPN)

Three notes: No moment will seem too big for new Oregon State coach JaMarcus Shephard, who was assistant coach for Washington three years ago when the Huskies played for the national championship and spent the past two years as assistant coach at Alabama. But the Beavers may have bitten off more than they can chew by opening the season with No. 23 Houston, a 20 1/2-point favorite, and following it next week with the home opener against No. 12 Texas Tech. Say this, Houston did need overtime last year for a 27-24 victory over the Beavers in Corvallis. . … Oregon State has one of the more intriguing quarterback transfers in 6-foot-1 sophomore Braden Atkinson, who lit it up at Mercer last season. Atkinson completed 66% of his passes for 3,596 yards and 34 touchdowns over 11 games. The highlight was a school-record 533 yards against VMI. … Former Oregon State running back Anthony Hankerson, who led the Beavers in rushing the past two seasons, is among the former NFL players trying to return to college. Hankerson was cut by Seattle last week and placed his name in the transfer portal. Oregon State is doing “due diligence” on players who want to return, according to Oregonlive.com.

San Diego State

This week: Saturday vs. Portland State, 6:30 p.m. PT (USA Network)

Three notes: SDSU and Big Sky opponent Portland State have met only one other time, with the Aztecs winning 52-17 in 2007 at Qualcomm Stadium behind a career day from quarterback Kevin O’Connell (19 of 31 passing, 443 yards, 5 TDs). SDSU is a 40 1/2-point favorite in this game. … SDSU is 10-0 against teams that were in the Big Sky at the time of the game. The Aztecs have an 11-game winning streak against FCS teams, outscoring those teams 387-114 … The Aztecs were 6-0 at Snapdragon Stadium last season. Their six-game home winning streak is tied for the 18th longest active streak in the nation. Defending national champion Indiana has the longest active home winning streak (15 games), followed by Ohio (13) and Ole Miss (11).

Texas State

This week: Saturday at No. 5 Texas, 12:30 p.m. PT (ESPN).

Three notes: Texas State is located in San Marcos, Texas, which is only 30 miles from UT, but the programs have met only one time over the years. And that was in 1930. Texas won 36-0. The spread for this meeting is similar, with the Longhorns favored by 29 1/2 points. … Texas State quarterback Brad Jackson is regarded as the top Group of Six quarterback, earning a No. 27 ranking (no one else in the Pac-12 was in the top 50) in The Athletic’s college QB rankings. Jackson completed 71.3% of his passes last season for 3,224 yards, rushed for 744 yards and totaled 38 touchdowns. … Texas State coach GJ Kinne was a walk-on quarterback at Texas in 2007 before transferring to Tulsa, where he was a three-year starter for the Golden Hurricane and passed for nearly 10,000 career yards. Kinne bounced around among three NFL teams and two CFL teams before turning to coaching.

Utah State

This week: Saturday vs. Idaho State, 4 p.m. PT (CBS Sports Network).

Three notes: Utah State has dominated its series with Idaho State, winning 19 of 21 meetings. The Aggies won 78-28 (with 44 points in the second quarter) the last time the teams got together in 2023, although a much closer contest is expected this time. Utah State is a 13 1/2-point favorite. … Life has come full circle for Utah State quarterback McCae Hillstead, who spent the past two years at BYU. As a freshman at Utah State in 2023, Hillstead started four of eight games, completing 60% of his passes for 1,062 yards and 11 touchdowns. Utah State coach Bronco Mendenhall named Hillstead the Aggies’ starting QB after spring practice. … Utah State’s receiving corps includes two players from San Diego — junior Rex Haynes (Cathedral Catholic High School) and redshirt freshman Ty Olsen (Lincoln High School).

Washington State

This week: Sunday at No. 17 Washington, 1 p.m. PT (NBC).

Three notes: Washington State and Washington used to play for the Apple Cup at the end of the season. That changed when the Huskies left for the Big Ten, and this 118th meeting represents the first time the teams are meeting in a season opener. Washington, a 23 1/2-point favorite, leads the series 77-34-6. The series began in 1900 with a 5-5 tie. … Washington State transfer quarterback Caden Pinnick is new to the Cougars program, but not to facing Washington. When Pinnick steps behind center against the Huskies, it will mark one year to the day since he faced them as QB for UC Davis, which lost 70-10. Pinnick was 8 of 16 in the game for 50 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. … Former Washington State coach Bill Doba died last week at age 85. Doba coached the Cougars from 2003-07. He shared 2003 Pac-10 Coach of the Year with USC’s Pete Carroll, capping a 10-3 season with a 28-20 win over Texas in the Holiday Bowl.
