A morning fire at a home in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood sent smoke billowing over the area, led to three firefighters being injured, and ultimately displaced one family of seven.
The fire began around 6:27 am Wednesday at the end of the 700 block of Anderson Street in Bernal Heights. Arriving firefighters found the first floor of the home engulfed. A second alarm was called due to “exposures being threatened,” and two homes directly on either side of the burning home were apparently saved from damage.
The family who lived at the home managed to make it out safely, rescuing one dog and one cat, but a second cat named Draco died after firefighters attempted life-saving measures on the animal.
The San Francisco Fire Department said the fire was contained as of 7:23 am.
The fire caused minor burn injuries for three firefighters, who were later treated at a local hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
