LONG BEACH, Calif. — VA Long Beach Healthcare System has opened a fully renovated and expanded peer-led resource center for veterans living with mental illness and a place for homeless veterans to get access to basic needs such as a shower, laundry facilities, meals, and more.
PIER, which stands for Partnership in Effective Recovery, is not a typical VA clinic. There are no appointments required, and veterans can drop in any time it is open, which is Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It is a place where veterans can connect with other veterans recovering from mental illness — with support from VA clinical staff.
The center can also help connect veterans with resources for things like housing.
