Man found dead in home after Sacramento County standoff; woman in custody
ROSEMONT, Calif. —
A woman is in custody after an hourslong standoff Thursday morning ended with the death of a man, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sgt. Edward Igoe, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said they got a call at 12:45 a.m. from a person who said that a woman shot her boyfriend—the caller’s father. Deputies then responded to the home on Fredric Avenue, near South Watt Avenue and Kiefer Boulevard.
As deputies arrived, Igoe said a woman had come out of the house, armed with a firearm. She set the weapon down and went back inside, barricading herself.
The son who reported the shooting told deputies that there were additional people both inside the home and inside an accessory dwelling unit, Igoe said. Deputies safely evacuated three adults and three children from the residence before continuing with the standoff.
Igoe said deputies used drones to get a look inside the residence and spotted an additional firearm, prompting them to be more cautious in entering the residence.
After using flashbangs and other chemical agents, deputies took the woman into custody and found a man deceased inside the home, Igoe said.

Once deputies learned that a person had died, Igoe said the scene turned into a homicide investigation. He anticipates the stretch of Fredric Avenue where the standoff and shooting happened to be closed for several hours.
The identities of the woman in custody and the man killed were not released. It is also not known what prompted the shooting.
