SANTA CLARA — Brock Purdy is finding joy in the balancing act of his public persona as the 49ers’ starting quarterback and his life as a family man.
And he said he believes the two are more connected than what most people might think.
“It allows me to be a better quarterback and everything because I understand, I am loved,” Purdy told NBC Sports Bay Area. “I have an amazing wife, an amazing daughter, and a second baby on the way, and everything is OK.
“And now I get to go and play free and play hard for them, and it’s been better.”
As the 49ers opened training camp in late July, Jenna Purdy announced on social media that the couple is expecting their second child.
“That’s all I’ve ever wanted growing up was this, as a husband and a father now,” Brock Purdy said. “I love it.”
Purdy, 26, enters his fifth NFL season after the 49ers selected him with the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Toward the end of his rookie season, he went from being an obscure reserve quarterback to a nationally recognizable face.
The Purdys, who make their offseason home in the Nashville area, still prioritize going for walks and grocery shopping as a family.
“We love and crave those things,” Purdy said.
And they also enjoy sharing some of their life’s story for public consumption.
“I think it is cool to be able to show everybody who we are,” Purdy said. “And people are interested, and so we’re not trying to be so sheltered with how we live.
“There’s definitely a balance with that. But we’re learning as we go.”
Brock Purdy and Jenna (formerly Brandt) met while attending Iowa State. Brock was the four-year starting quarterback for the Cyclones, while Jenna played volleyball. She later transferred to Northern Iowa.
Her experience as a Division I athlete gives her a greater understanding of what is required of her husband as a professional, Purdy said.
“I’m so blessed to have an amazing wife who understands what I do for a living, but also what’s important to our life and what we’re trying to get out of this life with loving each other, loving our family and our babies,” Brock Purdy said.
“Those are our priority, for sure. But then within that, I do have a job. I do have a lot of responsibility as the 49ers starting quarterback.”
