FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno Unified students will once again have access to district-funded field trips this school year after funds from a foundation were found.
Superintendent Misty Her announced Thursday that the Foundation for Fresno Unified Students will fund the centralized field trip program that had previously been eliminated amid district budget cuts.
Her also apologized for how families learned about the original change, saying the district should have communicated directly with parents before the school year began.
The superintendent emphasized that other school-funded field trips, camps, college tours and enrichment programs were never eliminated.
The restoration comes as Fresno Unified faces declining enrollment and tighter finances.
Her warned that additional difficult budget decisions will likely be necessary in the next budget cycle.
The district will also create a new Community Budget Advisory Group, bringing together parents, teachers, students, principals, staff and community leaders to review Fresno Unified’s budget and provide recommendations on future spending priorities.
