CHP launches 78-hour maximum enforcement for Labor Day weekend
The California Highway Patrol’s 78-hour maximum enforcement period for Labor Day weekend begins Friday at 6:01 p.m. and will continue through Monday, Sept. 7, at 11:59 p.m.
CHP said officers will focus on removing drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol from the road.
Last year, CHP arrested more than 1,200 people for DUIs during the same holiday weekend.
During that same period, there were nearly 500 DUI-related crashes across the state that caused more than 270 injuries and eight deaths, according to CHP.
CHP recommends that those who plan to drink designate a sober driver or use public transportation, rideshare or taxi service.
DUI checkpoints
Sacramento police and Folsom police will hold checkpoints on Friday night to look for drivers with signs of being impaired.
