AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) stopped in Aiken, S.C. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026.
It was part of a two-day tour to connect with democrats in South Carolina. The visit comes ahead of the 2028 Democratic primary.
“I believe we’re better off when we have oversight,” Newsom said. “I believe Congress, is not doing their job, with the current makeup. And I’m looking forward to getting Democrats elected to, a system of real checks and balances in this country, which I think is fundamentally healthy. And I think vast majority of Americans agree with that fundamental point of view. Democrats, independents and Republicans. I’m mindful, about the political dynamics here in South Carolina.”
Newsom also has plans for stops in Lexington and Lancaster counties.
