Two children were killed and two adults were injured after a small plane crashed near the Sierra Sky Park Airport in Fresno Saturday afternoon.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Saturday evening that a Grumman American Aviation Corp. AA-5 airplane crashed near the 7300 block of Blythe Avenue shortly before 1:50 p.m.
Police and firefighters responded and found the single-engine airplane on fire in a residential area.

“Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading onto the properties of nearby homes,” the sheriff’s office said.
The two adults were hospitalized with serious injuries and remain in critical condition. The children were pronounced dead at the scene. No other people were aboard the plane at the time of the crash.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the NTSB.
This is California’s third notable small plane crash in the last week.
