Highway 193 reopens in Placer County after hours-long closure due to hazmat issue

Highway 193 in Placer County has reopened after being partially shut down in both directions for hours due to hazardous materials on the road, officials said.

The California Highway Patrol said the closure was at Gold Hill Road and required the presence of emergency crews.

According to the Placer Hills Fire Protection District, crews responded around noon and establish and isolation zone to protect public safety.

At 6 p.m. CHP said the road was back open. Drivers are being asked to travel slow while crews continue to work in the area.

CAL FIRE NEU, the Roseville Fire Department and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the hazmat incident.

Officials have not specified what type of hazardous material was on the road.
