BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man is in custody after a hit-and-run that killed a woman in east Bakersfield.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of South Union Avenue Sunday just after 7:30 p.m.
BPD said the woman was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle driving northbound. The driver in the crash fled the scene with the vehicle before officers arrived to the scene.
The Bakersfield Fire Department responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
With help from video footage, police later located the vehicle in the 3600 block of Cottonwood Road and arrested Guadalupe Hernandez, 36, for charges including hit-and-run causing death.
According to BPD, Hernandez admitted to being the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
