Sacramento police pursue reckless driver before K-9 apprehension

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A driver was taken into custody after a pursuit in Sacramento early Saturday, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Sacramento police said officers saw a vehicle driving recklessly around 12:45 a.m. near J and 7th streets. Officers attempted a traffic stop but the driver did not stop and a pursuit began.

The pursuit traveled onto the freeway and outside Sacramento toward Davis before eventually returning to the city. Several law enforcement agencies became involved as the pursuit traveled through different jurisdictions.

Sacramento police successfully deployed spike strips near Freeport Boulevard and Sutterville Road. 

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said a K-9 apprehended the driver around 1:22 a.m. The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment and is in custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

The California Highway Patrol said CHP Woodland and the Davis Police Department were briefly involved in the pursuit. CHP South Sacramento also joined the pursuit but was called off around 1:15 a.m.
