A construction site in West Hollywood that was taken over by coyotes now appears to be free of them.

Hoping for a celebrity sighting is standard in West Hollywood, but the building at Spaulding Avenue and Romaine Street had become infamous, and its now-former residents were controversial.

“We took a walk over here because we heard that this place was called ‘Coyote Condos,'” neighbor Sherry Gonzalez said.

The coyotes that moved into the building were a cause for concern for some who were worried about pets, their own safety and even the wellbeing of the coyotes.

“While it seemed like it would be interesting, it’s definitely a hazard for the neighborhood,” Gonzalez said.

West Hollywood residents have noted that a pack of coyote have overtaken the site of an abandoned apartment construction project. Robert Kovacik reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026.

In July, the city of West Hollywood directed the property owner to take immediate action. The property owner called in a pest management company.

A spokesperson for Humane Pest Control said the company got the coyotes out of the space about a week ago and that it took about 2-3 weeks to do it. He says the company first used cameras to figure out how many coyotes there were and to understand their behavior, including when and how they were coming in and out.

After Humane Pest Control says it found two adults and three pups inside, it then used reflectors and other deterrents to make the coyotes relocate themselves. The company also removed food, water and other sources that were attracting coyotes to the site.

While the pest management company believes the coyotes are gone from the property, neighbors say they haven’t gone far.

“I haven’t seen them in this construction site in like a while,” neighbor Nalia Moreno said. “I have seen them like roaming the street pretty often. I saw one this morning. It looked like it was a baby.”

Meanwhile, some neighbors say they’re more concerned with the building than the animals. NBC4 Investigates found paperwork for the construction project dating back to 2018. The developer had plans to build a four-story, 22-unit condo, but the city says construction stalled in 2024.

“I think they should get rid of this whole building,” neighbor Ramzy Saleh said.
