Damage to a seawall during high-surf conditions prompted the evacuations of about 20 homes in Long Beach on Monday, Sept 7.
High tides and waves pounded beachfront properties on Seaside Walk, from 63rd Place to 67th Place, with reports of cracked concrete suggesting possible foundation damage at some of the residences, Long Beach Fire Department officials said in a bulletin.
Authorities asked residents in the area to leave out of an abundance of caution as building department officials assess the structural integrity of affected homes.

Those who were displaced were aided by city health and transit department officials.
Meanwhile, public works crews performed storm-mitigation efforts and volunteers distributed sandbags to those trying to keep ocean water from pooling in their homes.
Intense waves and flooding at the start of the week were fueled in part by the effects of Hurricane Marie.
Stormy conditions also caused the closure of the Junipero Beach parking-lot access roads to the Long Beach Peninsula, except for residents.
Conditions remained “dynamic, with a combination of high tides, storm surge, surf and swell,” as of Monday evening, LBFD officials said.
