2 missing, 1 in critical condition after boat overturns in San Joaquin County
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. —
Two people are believed to be missing and one person was hospitalized in critical condition following a boating accident on the Delta in San Joaquin County on Sunday, the sheriff’s office said.
One boat overturned and submerged just after 5 p.m. on the San Joaquin River at Prisoners Point, the sheriff’s office said.
One person was taken from the water with major injuries and flown by Life Flight to the hospital. Search efforts for two other people who witnesses said were in the water were suspended because of darkness, the sheriff’s office said.
The search efforts continued on Monday and involved the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and Boating Safety Unit.
The sheriff’s office said it was unsure how many total people were aboard the boat.
Editor’s Note: The sheriff’s office initially said two vessels were involved before clarifying that information was incorrect and there was just one vessel.
