FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno police arrested 95 drivers suspected of driving under the influence during a nearly three-week period through Labor Day weekend as part of a national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign.

The Fresno Police Department said the mobilization included additional officers on patrol to take suspected impaired drivers off the road.

Of those arrested in Fresno, 11 drivers were cited for driving under the influence of drugs, and three were cited for a combination of alcohol and drugs.

In addition to patrols, the department held DUI checkpoints on August 22nd and August 29th that led to 24 DUI arrests.

Statewide, drunk driving remains a major traffic safety concern. Drunk driving crashes accounted for 34% of all traffic deaths in California in 2024, which equates to about four people killed every day.

Police also warned that impairment can be caused by more than alcohol, including cannabis products, illicit drugs, and even prescription and over-the-counter medications.

In California, first-time DUI charges average $13,500 in fines and penalties and could include a suspended license.
