BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A driver died after their vehicle crashed into parked cars, caught fire, and was fully engulfed early Tuesday morning at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 4:53 a.m., officers were called to the 3800 block of Marriott Drive regarding a single vehicle versus parked vehicles.

When officers arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed and the driver still in the driver’s seat.

The Bakersfield Fire Department responded, extinguished the fire, and pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

BPD Traffic responded and assumed the investigation.
