Unusually high tides and pounding surf driven by Tropical Storm Marie forced the evacuation of more than a dozen homes along the Long Beach Peninsula, as officials raised concerns about structural damage to buildings and the seawall. Long Beach firefighters went door-to-door urging residents to leave after water surged over the seawall and across the boardwalk.
