BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — In a recent DUI and driver’s license checkpoint, Bakersfield police screened more than 700 vehicles and detained one person for driving under the influence.
The checkpoint was operated on Friday, Sept. 4, by the Bakersfield Police Department’s Traffic Unit on the 1900 block of Ming Avenue between 6:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5.
BPD said the checkpoint was operated in conjunction with a DUI saturation patrol event.
Specifically, police screened 728 vehicles and the one driver found to be under the influence was arrested on DUI charges.
Eleven other drivers were given citations for license-related violations and six vehicles were impounded for 30 days. through the operation.
BPD said during the DUI saturation patrol, 29 traffic stops were made and seven drivers were evaluated for impaired driving. One driver was arrested for DUI and six cars were impounded for driver licenses violations.
Bakersfield’s DUI checkpoints and the saturation patrols are funded through the Bakersfield Police Department’s Traffic Unit grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
BPD said if someone suspects someone of driving under the influence, they are encouraged to call 911.
