(FOX40.COM) — A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle Tuesday night in Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.
At about 9:54, the Sacramento Communications Center broadcast a report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway on the westbound side Highway 50 east of Interstate 5, CHP said in a news release Wednesday morning.
When officers arrived, they found an adult man who had been fatally struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, CHP said. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be factors in the crash.
According to CHP, a preliminary investigation showed the pedestrian was in the No. 7 lane of the highway. The driver, operating a Honda, was driving in that lane and saw the vehicle ahead of him “suddenly swerve to the left.”
The driver then saw the man in the lane ahead but was unable to avoid the collision.
