As Tropical Storm Lowell moves farther away from the Hawaiian Islands, Tropical Depression Fourteen-E has formed in the East Pacific well south-southwest of the Baja California Peninsula.

The tropical depression was moving west-northwest at 9 mph and expected to move west over the next couple of days.
Fourteen-E is forecast to gradually strengthen over the next several days before becoming a tropical storm tonight or Thursday when it will be given the name Norbert. It is expected to continue to strenthen into a hurricane over the weekend.
By Monday, the end of the five-day forecast, the storm will be a Category 1 hurricane with 85 mph maximum sustained about 1,400 miles west-southwest of Hilo as it heads toward the Central Pacific.
