BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Ceremonies and events are set Friday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives.
Both the Bakersfield police and Bakersfield fire departments are set to honor those fallen beginning at the BFD’s Station 15 on Buena Vista Road at 9:30 a.m. Another ceremony at Station 15 will take place in the evening, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a shuttle service available at the Park at Riverwalk for both of Station 15’s ceremonies.
Bakersfield High School, South High School and CTech will have memorials for students Friday on their campuses. Young Marines are set to guard the memorials all day.
SSD Alarm will host its Annual Hero Appreciation Event in partnership with Salty’s BBQ & Catering, providing a complimentary BBQ lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for members of the Bakersfield Police Department, Kern County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Bakersfield Fire Department and Kern County Fire Department as a small token of appreciation for their continued dedication and sacrifice.
That evening there will also be a 9/11 Memorial Ride to WTC Beam, hosted by Bakersfield Harley Davidson.
All are welcome to ride to the WTC beam located on Buena Vista Road with a short ceremony, followed by saluting our flag and remembering all those that died in the attacks.
