BERKELEY – California men’s soccer secured its first home win of the season over Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, September 9, at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears defeated the Titans, 1-0.
The first half between the Bears and Titans was even, with both teams taking seven shots. Cal held 60% of the possession during the opening 45 minutes, heading into the locker room at halftime with the score tied, 0-0.
The second half began similarly to the first, with both teams battling for scoring opportunities. Lucca Guimaraes broke the tie in the 72nd minute, marking the first goal of his career. His goal would ultimately seal the win for the Bears and marked just the second game-winning goal for Cal this season.
The Bears dominated the Titans in corner kicks, 8-2, and outshot Cal State Fullerton, 13-10, while recording five shots on goal.
Cal heads to No. 21 Louisville for its second ACC match of the season on September 13, with the match set to air on ACCNX.
