The Los Angeles Rams were in Santa Clara today for their second meeting with the San Francisco 49ers, a rematch of their Week 5 showdown. The Rams were seeking their fourth straight victory since that loss to the 49ers, playing like one of the best teams in the league.
San Francisco, meanwhile, had gone 2-2 since that stunning Week 5 win over the Rams, entering this game with a 6-3 record. It was a critical game for the Rams, knowing they’re only a half-game up on the 49ers in the division and also have to face the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the next two weeks.
The Rams took care of business and won 42-26, dominating the 49ers on their own field. Matthew Stafford threw four touchdown passes, Puka Nacua and Davante Adams each scored and Kyren Williams found the end zone twice.
Here’s a recap of how the game went in Santa Clara.

The 49ers went for it on fourth-and-1 from the Rams’ 11-yard line but were stuffed by Byron Young on the outside. Christian McCaffrey couldn’t get outside and reach the line to gain, an excellent job by Young to stop the 49ers running back.

Rams 30, 49ers 23: The Rams were astonished that they lost to the 49ers in Week 5. Kyren Williams’ fumble at the goal line turned what should’ve been a go-ahead touchdown into a costly turnover, while Joshua Karty’s missed 53-yard field goal also proved to be a pivotal play.
The Rams should’ve won that game, going into it as big favorites over their division rivals. But they beat themselves and committed too many mistakes, failing to contain the unlikely duo of Mac Jones and Kendrick Bourne. The 49ers are now healthier, though it’ll still be Jones at QB and Fred Warner is missing at LB.
Still, Los Angeles will avoid getting swept by taking care of business on the road today against the 49ers. The Rams are playing too well right now to lose another game as sizable favorites, having won each of their last three contests by double-digits – and scoring at least 34 in each of the last two.
