FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Multiple events are taking place around the Central Valley to honor the anniversary and remember the lives lost and the sacrifices of the first responders.

CLOVIS

The California 9/11 Memorial will hold its annual remembrance ceremony with guest speaker, retired New York City firefighter Andy Isolano.

The memorial ceremony will take place from 8:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m. at 3485 Never Forget Lane in Clovis.

The ceremony is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

In December 2001, Andy and approximately 1,000 other first responders were invited to Clovis, California, by David McDonald, CEO of Pelco, for the dedication of the California 9/11 Memorial. What began as an opportunity to honor those who served became a turning point in Andy’s life. He returned to Clovis each year for September 11th ceremonies, and in 2004, he made Clovis his home.

CLOVIS

As part of its 80th Anniversary Speaker Series, the Clovis Veterans Memorial District will host “A View from the Pentagon,” with Former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force Michael Montelongo.

Montelongo will share his firsthand experience inside the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, and the critical leadership lessons that emerged from that defining moment.

The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District, located at 808 Fourth Street in Clovis.

The program commemorates the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, while honoring a legacy of service and sacrifice.

FRESNO

9/11 Ceremony of Remembrance at Todd Beamer Park. Beamer was an American passenger aboard United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked and crashed as part of the September 11 attacks in 2001. He and other passengers caused the hijackers to crash into an open field in Pennsylvania before it could reach its unknown intended target.

There will be a special F-15 flyover by the 144th Fighter Wing to honor Todd Beamer and all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The Keynote Speaker is Lieutenant Colonel Heather Yamamoto, the commander of the 144th Maintenance Group of the 144th Fighter Wing of the California Air National Guard in Fresno.

The event starts at 6 p.m. at Todd Beamer Park, located at 1890 E Plymouth Way, near Maple and Behymer Avenues in Fresno.

MADERA

9/11 Remembrance Stair Climb Challenge

Fitness Ventures, the largest Crunch Fitness franchisee in the United States, is bringing together over 100 fire departments and thousands of participants across 106 Crunch Fitness locations nationwide on September 11 for its annual 9/11 Remembrance Stair Climb Challenge. On the 25th anniversary of September 11, local communities, first responders, and Crunch members will climb 110 flights together in tribute to the first responders who served and sacrificed that day.

Many participating fire departments are climbing in full gear, honoring the FDNY firefighters and first responders who lost their lives.

The event takes place all day, and participants can do it any time from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. If you’re in Madera, you can participate in the 9/11 Remembrance Stair Climb Challenge at Crunch Fitness Madera, located at 1143 Country Club Drive.

Participants will receive a free one-week membership to Crunch Fitness as well as a feature on Crunch’s social media pages.

SANGER

Sanger High School 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony with Former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force Michael Montelongo.

Montelongo was inside the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, when it was struck during the terrorist attacks. Hear his firsthand account and powerful message of courage, resilience, service, and patriotism.

Join us as we honor the lives lost and the heroes who answered the call on one of the most significant days in American history.

VISALIA

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux and the staff at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office have invited the public to attend the 25th 9/11 Anniversary Ceremony.

The event takes place at 8 a.m. at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, located at 833 South Akers Street in Visalia.

Join law enforcement, fire personnel, and members of the community to remember, reflect, and honor the lives lost and the sacrifices made on September 11, 2001.

9/11 Blood Drive

The Central California Blood Center and Tulare Rotary Club are hosting the 20th Annual Tulare Rotary 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive.

The blood drive will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tulare Veterans Memorial Building, located at 1771 East Tulare Avenue in Tulare.
