Police shoot a dog and its owner by Union Square

  • November 10, 2025

Police shot a dog and its owner by Union Square Sunday evening, prompting authorities to close vehicle access to several blocks of Market Street as they investigate.

The San Francisco Fire Department responded around 4:30 p.m. to O’Farrell and Market streets, where they found two people, a cop, and a dog with injuries.

The San Francisco Police Department has yet to respond to a request for comment.

One man was shot in the leg by a San Francisco police offer and sent to a nearby hospital, according to SFFD spokesperson Lt. Mariano Elias. Another person turned down treatment for undisclosed injuries, he said.

The other patient paramedics evaluated was the officer who pulled the trigger after getting bit by the dog, according to Elias.

“The officer was still being evaluated last I checked, but was not interested in going to the hospital,” he said in a phone call.

The dog was transported by Animal Care and Control, but appeared to be in stable condition. Animal control didn’t immediately respond to an email requesting details.

The incident comes a day after five people were wounded — four minors, and an adult with life-threatening injuries — in a mass shooting in the city’s west side, by Ocean Beach in the Outer Richmond.
