A pedestrian in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross a Fresno road Thursday night.

The crash happened around 8:15 p.m. on West Avenue near Shields Avenue.

According to Fresno Police Lt. Justin Hoagland, the pedestrian was crossing West Avenue outside of a crosswalk on the east side of the road when struck.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

Hoagland said there are no indications that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
