The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman killed in a shooting near a Panera on Howe Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
She’s been identified as 38-year-old Shalini Thakur.
Deputies say Thakur was killed Tuesday afternoon in a shooting near a Panera on Howe Avenue, and the man investigators believe shot her was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies responded shortly before 3 p.m. after witnesses reported the shooting. Deputies used the suspect vehicle description to track the vehicle through the FLOCK camera system and located it near Highway 50 and Howe Avenue.
The driver, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as 22-year-old Rohit Rohit, stopped when deputies attempted a traffic stop. Deputies later found him dead inside the vehicle.
Investigators say Rohit had been stalking and harassing the victim since at least January. The Sheriff’s Office said he had placed an AirTag on her vehicle, followed her to work and, in another incident, entered her apartment while she was sleeping.
The victim obtained a restraining order in May. Deputies also took a report on July 29 alleging Rohit had violated the order by leaving grocery items outside her home.
Detectives say Rohit confronted the woman at the Howe Avenue shopping center Tuesday before chasing and shooting her multiple times.
