A Clovis woman is accused of funding a lavish lifestyle by defrauding her employer of more than $4 million for about four years.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Kelly Lynn Brown, 47, was arrested Friday over accusations of using her employer’s credit card to make hundreds of unauthorized purchases.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI.

Brown started working as a bookkeeper at a company specializing in custom countertops in November 2020. In January 2021, she allegedly secured two credit cards for business expenses — one in the company’s name, and one in the owner’s name. This was allegedly done without the business owner’s consent, according to court records.

Months later, she was accused of securing an unauthorized card in her name.

According to court records, Brown allegedly used the cards to make more than $640,000 worth of purchases in 2022, including thousands on cosmetic surgery, a motorcycle and wholesale clothing purchases. FBI task force officer Timothy Johnson said he believes the clothing purchases helped stock Brown’s now-defunct online clothing boutique, which was created in August 2022, per court records.

In 2023 and 2024, respectively, Brown allegedly made $1.6 million and $1.7 million worth of fraudulent purchases with her company card.

She is accused of concealing the alleged fraud by making payments via interstate wire transfers to American Express through the business’s bank account.

In August 2024, after the bank called to inform the victim and his son that the business account had been overdrawn, they uncovered the alleged fraud. Brown was fired in October 2024.

The criminal complaint was filed on Sept. 1, and Brown was arrested three days later.

If Brown is convicted, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said she faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
