Victor G. Sayas was arrested in Oakland on Wednesday, Sept. 9, following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Oakland police, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Sayas is accused of penetrating the girl’s vagina with his fingers and touching her buttocks with his hand or finger, according to charging documents obtained by Daily Voice.
The investigation began on Monday, Sept. 7, when Oakland police contacted the prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit about an alleged sexual assault, Musella said. Investigators determined that Sayas sexually assaulted the girl in Oakland, according to Musella.
Sayas was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
Jail records show that Sayas is a Mexican national. ICE had not issued a detainer as of press time.
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
