Fire destroys house in Rio Linda area of Sacramento County, officials say
ELVERTA, Calif. —
Crews extinguished a fire that tore through a house in the Rio Linda area of Sacramento County.
The fire started around 3:30 a.m. at West Elverta Road east of Highway 99, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.
It is unclear if anyone was injured or if anyone was inside when the fire started.
Large flames were seen coming out of the house. Crews had to go on the defensive and extinguished the flames from a distance because the house could not be saved.
Flames spread to nearby grassland. The cause of the fire is unknown.
This house fire was one of three major fires Metro Fire responded to Friday morning. A man died, and a firefighter was injured after an apartment complex fire near Watt and Whitney avenues, and crews extinguished a grass fire by the American River in the Rancho Cordova area.
